Hello! Today’s post is what many of you were expecting! Today we aremaking kimbap, which is not as hard as it might looks (well….I only did the cuts) So here we have the ingredients
INGREDIENTS
- sushi mat
- sushi rice
- Kim (nori) seaweed
- eggs
- carrot
- fresh spinach
- yellow pickled radish*
- burdock root*
- wienner sausage
- bacon
- sesame oil
- salt
- vegetable oil for frying
So we used 3 cups of rice 1 carrot 2 sausages 4 strips of bacon 2 eggs and we got 3 kimbap so the amount of ingredients depends on you and how many kimbaps you want to make.
*yellow pickled radish, you can find in any asian market near you, but I am not quite sure about the burdock root as I was checking if it exists in Greece and I couldn’t find it so, If you can’t find it either I suggest you use cucumber, it goes well with the Kimbap.

HOW TO MAKE
So first of all, we are going to make the sushi rice. If you do not have a rice cooker, what you can do is that you will put the rice in a bowl and fill with water, and rinse the rice well so there will be as clear water as possible and then strain it. After that, we will place the rice in a pot, and fill with water, a little bit more than covering completly the rice. Then you will put it on the heat and when rice comes to a boil, you are going to turn to low heat for 15 minutes. After that you will turn off the heat and let the rice rest for another 15 minutes. Then you will mix the rice with sesame oil and salt and let it cool for the time being.
Now we are going to continue with the carrots. We will cut the carrots like strips (you will do the same cut to the cucumber if you choose to make it with cucumber) And add vegetable oil in a pan. We are going to cook the carrots until they become a bit soft.
Meanwhile, we need a pot with water to boil, and we are going to put the spinach there, but no more than 10 seconds. We need the spinach to be kind of crispy. We are going to rinse it under cold water once we take out from the boiling water and let it strain.
Now, for the sausages, we are going to cut them in 4 and fry them in the pan (dont put too much oil) and lastly we will fry a bit the bacon and make the omelet (careful not to turn it into scrambled eggs) and cut it into strips.
As for the radish and the root(if you have it and want to use it) you can just use it with no further process.
So now that we have all the ingredients ready, we will take the sushi mat and put the seaweed on it.
We are going to take a handfull of rice (like a tennis ball) and put on the seaweed (you shouldn’t cover the whole seaweed surface)
We will start putting the ingredients as the photo bellow, it doesn’t matter with what order, just be careful not to put too much otherwise the roll will not become a circle.
We are going to start rolling the roll with the sushi mat and also press well while you roll so the kimbap won’t become undone.
When the roll is done, we are going to put water across the edge showing and roll it so it sticks on the rest of the seaweed. Then we are going to put sesame oil on the seaweed to give a nice shiny effect, and we will cut into pieces.
Bon appetit! If you follow the recipe I would really like to see your kimbap! I am expecting your comments! see you soon.
with love,
TheMeanBrunette
